Accommodation in Namibia is generally of a high standard and caters for both the leisure tourist and business person. There is a wide range of different types of accommodation in Namibia ranging from hotels, lodges, guest houses, self-catering, tented camps and camping. There is a wide choice of centrally located hotels either in the city centre or just a few minute’s drive out of the city. There are also a number of comfortable lodges available which are located in the African bush but are in close proximity to Windhoek. For those looking for budget accommodation a number of well established backpackers are available within the City of Windhoek.
Accommodation in Swakopmund and Walvis Bay is also varied and there is a huge selection to choose from. If you prefer a more personal stay then there are a large number of guest houses and pensions which are often owner managed and you will be assured of personal attention from your hosts. Hotels are also on offer ranging from the more affordable to the very up-market. The amenities and facilities of the various accommodation establishments are generally very high with most of them offering Wi-Fi and some of them offering good in-house restaurants. The two other gates to Etosha are the von Lindequest Gate which is situated on the eastern side of Etosha near the town of Tsumeb or the King Nehale Gate on the northern boundary of Etosha. The accommodation near Etosha is varied and generally of a high standard. Luxury tented accommodation is available for the more discerning traveler where your every need is catered for. There are also many different kinds of lodges available with in-house restaurants. Most of these accommodation establishments also offer guided day trips to Etosha so you don’t necessarily have to take your own car and you can simply sit back and view the wildlife and game. Many of these lodges also offer camping sites….as a camper guests are mostly also able to make use of the on-site restaurants available at the lodges.
Accommodation in the Zambezi (previously Caprivi) and Kavango areas are also unique and a large variety of different kinds of accommodation are available. Many of the lodges are located directly alongside the mighty Zambezi or Chobe rivers or on one of its main tributaries. Accommodation alongside one of these rivers offers tourists a unique perspective of wildlife as game drives in a boat can get much closer to game than normal. Some of these lodges are located on islands and offer a totally different experience and can only be accessed by boat. Tourists also have the opportunity of viewing the hippo’s or buffalos as these two species are only found in their natural habitat in this part of Namibia.
