Accommodation in Namibia is generally of a high standard and caters for both the leisure tourist and business person. There is a wide range of different types of accommodation in Namibia ranging from hotels, lodges, guest houses, self-catering, tented camps and camping. Accommodation in Windhoek is available for the budget traveler as well as for the up-market traveler. There is a wide choice of centrally located hotels either in the city centre or just a few minute’s drive out of the city. There is a wide variety of smaller pensions, guest houses, self-catering and B&B’s to choose from when looking for accommodation in Windhoek. There are also a number of comfortable lodges available which are located in the African bush but are in close proximity to Windhoek. For those looking for budget accommodation a number of well established backpackers are available within the City of Windhoek.


Accommodation in Swakopmund and Walvis Bay is also varied and there is a huge selection to choose from. If you prefer a more personal stay then there are a large number of guest houses and pensions which are often owner managed and you will be assured of personal attention from your hosts. Hotels are also on offer ranging from the more affordable to the very up-market. The amenities and facilities of the various accommodation establishments are generally very high with most of them offering Wi-Fi and some of them offering good in-house restaurants. For international travelers staying in Swakopmund we highly recommend staying a few nights. There is a huge choice of activities on offer. Whether it’s more of an adrenalin type of activity such as quad-biking or skydiving or a more leisurely type of activity such as doing a desert tour or participating in a Sandwich Harbour tour there is definitely something on offer for every kind of traveler. Swakopmund is also an excellent base to undertake day trips to Cape Cross or the Moon Landscape.


Sossusvlei is one of the top attractions in Namibia and a visit to Namibia must include this. There are many types of accommodation available in this area. Camping is a favorite for many travelers and most of the lodges also offer good camping sites with clean ablution facilities. Camping is also available inside Sossusvlei at Sesriem through the government run Namibia Wildlife Resorts. For those travelers that prefer staying at a lodge or guest farm there is a very good selection of different accommodation establishments within close proximity to Sossusvlei. There is a number of up-market and exclusive tented lodges near Sossusvlei for the more discerning traveler. There are also many privately owned lodges and guest farms available.


Etosha is the highlight for many travelers visiting Namibia. Etosha is one of the largest game reserves in Africa with a surface area of approximately 23000 km2. There are a total of 114 mammal species and well over 300 various species of birds can be viewed inside Etosha. Accommodation is available inside Etosha National Park via the government run lodges and camping sites. There is a good choice of privately owned lodges & guest farms  that are available in close proximity to the various entrances to Etosha and day trips can easily be undertaken to the park. The Galton Gate was opened recently after many years and Etosha can now be entered on the western side via this gate. Tourists can also enter the park via the Anderson Gate which is found on the southern side of Etosha. The two other gates to Etosha are the von Lindequest Gate which is situated on the eastern side of Etosha near the town of Tsumeb or the King Nehale Gate on the northern boundary of Etosha. The accommodation near Etosha is varied and generally of a high standard. Luxury tented accommodation is available for the more discerning traveler where your every need is catered for. There are also many different kinds of lodges available with in-house restaurants. Most of these accommodation establishments also offer guided day trips to Etosha so you don’t necessarily have to take your own car and you can simply sit back and view the wildlife and game. Many of these lodges also offer camping sites….as a camper guests are mostly also able to make use of the on-site restaurants available at the lodges.


Accommodation in the Zambezi (previously Caprivi) and Kavango areas are also unique and a large variety of different kinds of accommodation are available. Many of the lodges are located directly alongside the mighty Zambezi or Chobe rivers or on one of its main tributaries. Accommodation alongside one of these rivers offers tourists a unique perspective of wildlife as game drives in a boat can get much closer to game than normal. Some of these lodges are located on islands and offer a totally different experience and can only be accessed by boat. Tourists also have the opportunity of viewing the hippo’s or buffalos as these two species are only found in their natural habitat in this part of Namibia. There are also house boats available if tourists are seeking a different experience when selecting accommodation in Namibia. There are luxurious and very well equipped options that cater for your every need whilst enjoying your African river safari. Tiger Fishing and birding are popular activities when traveling through this part of Namibia.


You can even stay at a lodge that is located on the rim of the Fish River Canyon – the second largest canyon in the world!


When seeking accommodation in Namibia make sure that your choice of lodge, hotel or guest house understands your needs. Be sure to book your accommodation in advance particularly in peak season (July - November). A deposit is normally requested to secure your accommodation. Some camping sites also offer power outlets so you are able to have every convenience you require when out in the African bush.
