The Skeleton Coast derives its name from the high number of shipwrecks that appear along this stretch of coastline as well as the skeletons of whales that remain from when the whaling industry was active many years ago. It’s a pristine stretch of coastline that stretches about 500 km’s but can also be be very hostile with extreme weather conditions. There are some beautiful lodges located within or close to the Skeleton Coast Park.
