Kanaan Desert Retreat
Kanaan Desert Retreat – the place where sand meets sky, and conservation meets desert luxury.
The gem of the Naankuse Collection, Kanaan Desert Retreat is a world unto itself. Imagine stepping into 35,000 hectares of not only iconic Namibian landscapes, but a place where conservation research has been rehabilitating the land since 2014.
Step into our eight luxury tented units, styled to reflect the surrounding landscapes and fulfil the comforts every discerning guest demands. Nestled against the backdrop of the world’s oldest desert, undulating vistas and endless horizons beg to be discovered. And the range of activities offered at Kanaan Desert Retreat allow just that. Sunrise and sunset dune drives, complete with tempting treats, game drives, spectacular photographic safaris, cheetah feeding tours and horse-riding excursions reveal the secrets of the desert. Identified as an International Dark Sky Place (IDSP), Kanaan’s night skies are out-of-this-world, a veritable feast for the eye… and camera lens.
Sumptuous meals and fine wines are served in the dining area perched atop a panorama of infinite views. It’s dining with a desert difference.
And lodge-style luxury perfectly complements our motto of “ecotourism supporting conservation”. Home to the Naankuse Foundation’s spotted hyena project, our dedicated Kanaan biologists love regaling the fascinating strides made in this field of research.
But the destination is only a part of the journey. Situated along Namibia’s Dream Road, the D707, reaching our southern reserve is almost as spectacular as Kanaan Desert Retreat itself.
Driving south on the C27 towards Helmeringhausen, 25kms after Betta, turn west on to the D707. Continue on D707 for 44kms at which point you’ll see a sign for the lodge on your left. It is another 8kms to the lodge along a farm track.
