We set sail from the Lüderitz Waterfront and head towards Halifax Island. We pass an old whaling station at Stromvogelbucht as we cruise through Shearwater Bay and around Diaz Point. One can see the Diaz Point Lighthouse erected in 1915. It is interesting to note that the famous Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Diaz landed here way back in 1488 and placed a stone cross still there today.
Halifax Island is home to the third-largest population of African Penguins in Namibia. In 2019 it was estimated that approximately 7000 African Penguins were living on this island. The Penguin catamaran positions itself next to the island. You can watch these little penguins carrying on with their daily lives.
Guests can expect to see a wide variety of marine and birdlife. Heaviside dolphins, birds and seals. The Heaviside dolphins are found only off the west coast of South Africa and Namibia.
