Experience the Kalahari Desert
Teufelskrallen Tented Lodge & Altes Farmhaus is situated on the periphery of a private nature reserve in the Kalahari Desert. It is positioned in proximity to the village of Kalkrand. The lodge boasts several amenities, including a reception within the ‘old farmhouse,’ a picturesque garden with shaded areas, a restaurant, a swimming pool, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a secure facility for safeguarding valuables. The old farmhouse serves as the venue for breakfast and dinner, providing guests with a delightful dining experience. With its awe-inspiring views of the Kalahari Desert landscape, the lodge offers an ideal environment for self-drive individuals, families, and groups.
Regarding accommodation, Teufelskrallen provides six cabins/tents, each thoughtfully furnished with a minibar, a tea/coffee station, a mosquito net, braai facilities, a private en-suite bathroom, and a shaded viewing deck for guests’ exclusive use. Positioned atop the dune, these tents offer captivating sunrise and sunset vistas over the Kalahari. Wooden boardwalks provide convenient access to each unit.
A wide array of activities awaits guests at Teufelskrallen. They can partake in game drives, sundowner drives, hiking expeditions, mountain biking excursions, and visits to the Devil’s Claw Site. During the game drives, visitors have the opportunity to spot various wildlife species, including giraffes, elands, black and blue wildebeests, red hartebeests, Burchell’s and Hartmann’s zebras, blesboks, impalas, nyalas, springboks, kudus, steenboks, and oryxes. The reserve also teems with smaller mammals and an abundance of birdlife. Guided and unguided walking trails are available for those who prefer to explore on foot. Mountain biking allows guests to engage in a fun and stimulating exercise while immersing themselves in the breathtaking expanse of the camelthorn savannah. Notably, the Devil’s Claw plant, known for its healing properties in treating arthritic and rheumatic diseases, thrives in the region. Adapted to arid conditions, this plant flourishes in sandy desert terrain, requiring minimal water for sustenance.
