Camp Kwando
Camp Kwando
Experience Wilderness, Embrace Comfort at Camp Kwando, Namibia
In the heart of Caprivi, just 100km from Katima Mulilo, lies the majestic Camp Kwando. This gem of a location is primarily owned by Swiss shareholders, who were captivated by the area’s stunning natural beauty and felt compelled to contribute to the Caprivi’s sustainable development.
The heart of Camp Kwando is its main building, a thatched lapa adorned with authentic African artefacts. This comfortable lounge, with an open-sided dining area, provides an unparalleled view of the river, where guests can spot crocodiles and hippos in their natural habitat. For those who wish to stay connected, there is an internet connection at the bar, and a curio shop offers an array of souvenirs for guests wishing to take a piece of Africa home. Keeping in line with its commitment to sustainability, the Camp is powered by solar energy around the clock. A swimming pool adds to the amenities, offering the perfect relaxation spot after a thrilling game drive or boat swamp trip.
Accommodation at Camp Kwando caters to a range of preferences. It boasts 13 island tents with thatched roofs, 6 luxury chalets, and 10 campsites, all designed to provide a tranquil retreat. Each unit is equipped with a mosquito net, an en-suite bathroom, and a private terrace overlooking the river. For additional comfort, in-room safes and ceiling fans are included. The campsites, situated between the island and the main building, are surrounded by beautiful shade-giving trees and feature well-maintained ablution blocks and laundry facilities.
To fuel up for the day’s adventures, guests can enjoy a hearty Camp Kwando buffet breakfast. Light lunches follow morning activities, and a three-course meal rounds off the day. The Camp offers a range of child-friendly activities, from fishing and boat trips to game drives and tours of the Bwabwata National Park and Nkasa Rupara National Park. Guests can also visit local villages to get a glimpse into the everyday life of the community, tour schools, or embark on guided hiking trails and birdwatching excursions. Over 450 different bird species have been recorded on the boat trips on the Kwando River and the game drives through the National Parks. Those who enjoy fishing can try their hand at netting a tigerfish, known to weigh up to 8 pounds in these waters. For a unique experience, guests can take a Mokoro trip on the backwaters through narrow canals, soaking in the dense surrounding vegetation.
