Namib’s Valley Lodge of a Thousand Hills

Overview of Namib’s Valley Lodge

Set within a remote and untouched corner of the Namib Desert, Namib’s Valley Lodge offers a truly immersive desert experience. Surrounded by rolling gravel plains and distant mountain ranges, the lodge provides a sense of space, silence, and exclusivity that defines this part of Namibia.

The lodge sits on a highland overlooking the Guab Valley, surrounded by thousands of hills that make it a photographer’s paradise and gives the area a fairy-tale charm.

The property blends naturally into its surroundings, with understated comfort and authentic desert atmosphere. Guests can enjoy private, uninterrupted views of the desert, and benefit from attentive staff and personalised guidance for exploring the area.

Location of Namib’s Valley Lodge

Namib’s Valley Lodge is located in the southern reaches of the Namib Desert, within a private reserve that forms part of a vast, largely untouched wilderness area. Its remote setting ensures minimal traffic and a more exclusive experience compared to more accessible destinations. If you are travelling from Windhoek, make sure you take the scenic Gamsberg Pass.

The lodge is best reached by self-drive travellers exploring southern Namibia, particularly those travelling between Sossusvlei and Lüderitz. Travel times from key points:

  • Approx. 2-2.5 hours from Sesriem/Sossusvlei (gravel roads, 4×4 recommended)
  • Approx. 2.5  hours from Windhoek (remote gravel routes, 4×4 recommended).
  • Approx. 2.5-3 hours from Swakopmund.
  • Approx. 1 hour from Solitaire.

This secluded position makes the lodge ideal for travellers seeking solitude and scenic desert landscapes.

Accommodation & Room Types

  • Family Chalet – with en-suite bathroom and ideal for families.
  • Lodge Room: Has a double bed and an en-suite bathroom. Beautiful view and own private balcony. It is also more suitable for elderly people because it is on one level with the lodge.
  • En-suite Rooms – includes twin beds and en-suite bathroom. The beds can be moved together to form a king-sized bed
  • Camping Sites – with private ablutions and shade.

Activities & Experiences

Guests can immerse themselves in the desert environment with self-guided nature walks, scenic sundowner drives across the reserve and experience remote locations. In the evenings, the exceptionally clear desert skies offer outstanding stargazing opportunities.

For photography enthusiasts, early morning drives or sunset viewpoints offer the most dramatic light over the desert landscapes. All activities are designed to respect the lodge’s peaceful atmosphere and natural surroundings.

Nearby Attractions

The lodge provides access to southern Namibia’s most iconic landscapes, including Sossusvlei with its towering red dunes, Sesriem Canyon carved by the Tsauchab River, and the vast Namib Desert itself. Scenic routes also connect to Lüderitz and the southern coastline, allowing for extended exploration.

We stayed at the campsite. Everything was spotlessly clean. The reception was very friendly. German is spoken, among other languages. Clean pool and a lovely sundowner. A fantastic spot for taking pictures, whether of the valley or the Milky Way at night. The terrain is hilly. Food and drinks are available at very fair prices. We'll definitely be back.

Sometimes words can't describe things but will give it a try. We book two nights at Sesriem Camping but dedcided that we can't stay longer a one night. By acident we had a look on the map and decided spontanious to book a night here. The view is comparable with the fish river canyon view and the service is amazing. Everybody who loves nature, a 270 degrees view over the land and mointains should stay here.

Stunning location, i know management is new but please get the sanitary working asap. Not nice not to have a hot shower and not able to flush the toilets.
Absolutely unforgettable. If you want a small scale lodge with a gorgeous view and the most kind of hosts, go here. We felt so welcomed by the new lodge managers, they really have the kindest of hearts and put a lot of love into the place and the people that visit. We’ll never forget them! We would also recommend the sundowner activity while you’re there; though you (probably) won’t see big animals, the atmosphere and views combined with the hospitality create a memorable experience. Also, the food was great! Just know you won’t have an outlet in your room, but there are plenty to use at the reception area.

This campsite is falling apart! We definitely won't come back, which is a shame because the scenery is spectacular and the night sky absolutely incredible. Most of the sinks have major water leaks — and that's especially disappointing knowing the water is pumped from 7 km away. Please do something about it; it's such a waste. The owner's welcome was also very rude. We were given almost no information and felt like we were bothering them just by being there.

Okish campsite with a beautiful view. Stayed one night on this campsite, traveling from Sossusvlei to Swakopmund. Campsite is 6km off the road, by a good-to-drive road. The last bit, up to the lodge/reception is difficult (not very wide and curved). Campsite are +/- 5-8 min uphill walking from the reception. The view from the campsites is great. Each campsite has its own shower/toilet building and a faucet to do dishes. No power on site, only at the reception. We used our powerbanks/solarpanel to charge our phones and fridge. Owner was not very friendly or inviting (no information about tours/sunsetwalks/location) and the notes about 'check out before 10am or pay another day' in the showerbuilding isn't very inviting. If in Namibia again, I probably would look for another campsite.
