Damaraland Camp: A Wilderness Safari Camp in the Huab River Valley

Damaraland Camp sits in the Huab River Valley, one of the most scenic wilderness areas in Damaraland, and is one of the region’s longest-running conservation tourism camps. Set within the Torra Conservancy, it pairs raw desert scenery with a genuine, decades-long partnership between the camp and the local community that helps fund conservation of the area’s desert-adapted wildlife.

What Makes Damaraland Camp Different

Damaraland Camp’s ten elevated, adobe-style thatched suites are built to celebrate the surrounding Namib Desert rather than shut it out, with unimpeded views across the plains from private, shaded verandas. The camp is a joint venture between the operator and the Torra Conservancy, one of Namibia’s founding communal conservancies, and the camp has been recognised with several conservation and tourism awards over the years for this model. Camp chats with guides cover desert-adapted elephants, the workings of the Torra Conservancy, and the wider ecology of Damaraland, giving guests genuine insight into how community conservancies function, not just a scenic backdrop.

Accommodation at Damaraland Camp

Each of the ten suites is an adobe-style thatched tent on a raised deck, with a writing desk, ottoman, easy chair, electronic safe and private shaded veranda looking out over the mountains. En-suite bathrooms have a double vanity basin, shower and toilet, and rooms are fully mosquito-proofed. One family unit is available for guests travelling with children.

Location & Getting There

Damaraland Camp is reached either by self-drive safari, using a rented 4×4 with good ground clearance, or via a nearby airstrip for guests travelling on a Namibian fly-in safari. The camp lies within easy reach of Twyfelfontein and the wider Damaraland region.
